PlantEd

PlantEd is a social media app designed for building local communities around green living and plant culture.
Challenge: Large social media platforms have become too big for their own good, losing their sense of community and human connection while fostering disinformation and alienation.
Opportunity: How might we create intimate local networks around plants, sustainable agriculture, and alternative marketplaces?

Customer Insight: Plant education was interesting but ultimately there is a greater need for connecting. Through customer interviews, I identified a desire for plant and seed bartering. There was an opportunity for alternative marketplaces around trading that promoted healthy and sustainable lifestyles, while still promoting education.
Competitive Analysis: There were already a number of plant-identifying app, that rely on AI learning and scrapping large amounts of data from image search engines. Thus, PlantEd needed to preform a different function beyond simply plant identification.
Main features:
- Photo Sharing: showcase your plants and learn from others
- Knowledge Repository: add to the library of plant types & tips
- Culinary Community: empower local produce & share recipes
- Alternative market meetups: incentivize new connections through trading
